Transmission of 1-Gbit/s data patterns through smart pixels by use of picosecond laser pulses

Abstract

We demonstrate the transmission of 1-Gbit/s data patterns through various GaAs/AlGaAs smart pixels by using free-space optics and trains of mode-locked picosecond laser pulses spaced 1 ns apart as optical inputs and outputs.
