Abstract
We treat χ(2) optical resonators, such as prism or grating couplers, illuminated not only by the field at the fundamental frequency but also by the one at the second harmonic. We show that optical bistability may exist even when phase matching is fulfilled. This kind of optical bistability involves a new nonlinear resonance.
