Light-induced magnetic vortices

I propose to use optical waves exhibiting spatially inhomogeneous polarization or phase singularities to imprint magnetic vortices in a medium exhibiting the inverse Faraday effect. It is suggested that a two-beam configuration would allow one to design tailored magnetization distributions with or without a phase singularity.
