Abstract

A comparison of tone reproduction by contact screens with one-dimensional nonlinear spatial transmittance describable by sinusoidal, logarithmic, and exponential functions is presented. A graphic analysis of these transmittances and of those of commercial screens and screens with linear spatial transmittance is also included. Based on the result of the analysis, optimal design and applications of contact screens in printing and image processing are discussed.
