Very-large-mode-area, single-mode multicore fiberPublished in Optics Letters, Vol. 34 Issue 18, pp.2876-2878 (2009) |
Spotlight summary: The fiber described is a very promising candidate, among several others recently demonstrated, for enabling power scaling with high-power fiber lasers—a field that is currently of immense interest. It can be anticipated that, following further demonstrations, tests, etc., the fiber the authors report will become the fifth candidate in addition to the four main technologies in the field.
As to the claim that it is truly single-moded multicore... that technically is true, but the true potential of this research is its completely novel approach to achieving large-mode-area fibers in contrast to other techniques.
